BE PREPARED!
IN
CASE
OF EMERGENCY
Start by Talking ...
Discussing what to do in the event you are
badly injured in an accident isn't always a fun topic,
however it is necessary. It's the first step in
preparedness.
Decide which of your closest friends and
family you can trust in case of an emergency. Note:
It's a good idea to have more than one person. Ask
those people if you can list them as ICE (In Case of
Emergency) contacts.
It's Important to inform your chosen
ICE Contacts about what to do in an emergency.
- Do you have any drug allergies?
- Are you a diabetic
- Where can they access important
documents
ICE Your Phone
Once you decide on ICE Contacts, put them
in your cell phone's contact list. List names as:
ICE - Person's Name
- Make sure your ICE contacts have a
list of people they should contact on your behalf -
including your place of work.
- Make sure your ICE numbers are those
that are easy to contact. Example: a home number
could be useless if the person works full time.
- Make sure your ICE contacts know any
medical conditions that could affect your emergency
treatment including current medications.
- If you're under 18, your ICE contact
needs to be a parent or guardian authorized to make
decisions on your behalf.
- Should an ICE contact be deaf, prefix
them number with ICETEXT.
- For multiple ICE contacts, list as
ICE1, ICE2, ICE3, etc.
ICE Your Home
- Put an ICE sticker on your cell phone
to let Emergency personnel know where to look. The
same can be done around your home. Put an ICE
sticker on anything you want to grab in a hurry, such as
a tool kit or non-perishable food. Looking for
items bearing a sticker is easier and saves precious
time in an emergency.
